El presente continuo tiene la característica de agregar un sufijo “-ing” hacia el final de cada verbo. Es algo similar a lo que en español llamamos gerundio, aplicando las terminaciones “-ando” o “-endo” según cada verbo. Do y does representan las formas del presente simple del verbo 'do', mientras que did es su forma del pasado simple. Se utilizan principalmente para formar frases negativas e interrogativas. Do se utiliza con pronombres personales, I, we, you, they. En cambio, does se utiliza con los pronombres personales he, she y it.
El present simple para hábitos, rutinas o cosas que hacemos con regularidad. El present continuous para cosas que están pasando justo en el momento en el que hablamos. El present continuous si el verbo termina en “-ing” o si hay un “ahora mismo”.
La regla del —ing simplemente nos dice que para formar el gerundio en inglés basta añadir —ing al verbo. La terminación —ing se corresponde con —ando y —endo del español.
